Due to the recent outbreak of COVID19, the CDC has recommended that the majority of the population stay at home. They have also recommended that areas of the home are sanitized as often as possible. Because of this, there has been a shortage of cleaning supplies throughout America. Home sanitization is an important part of keeping you and your family or roommates healthy. There are many ways to sanitize a home including a variety of DIY ways. Hydrogen Peroxide can effectively clean areas of your home and keep them sanitary.

Hydrogen Peroxide Cleaning uses In Kitchens

Bacteria and viruses like COVID19 can often cling to various surfaces and survive for anywhere from a couple of hours to a few days (depending on the virus or bacteria). Damp and wet areas often can carry diseases on their surfaces longer, which is why it extremely important to clean the following areas regularly:

  • Countertops: Add some hydrogen peroxide to an empty opaque spray bottle. (Make sure to use an opaque bottle as light negatively affects hydrogen peroxide). Then just use the spray bottle on counters to disinfect.
  • Cutting Boards: Clean these after use, especially after cutting raw meat. Use the same spray bottle method as above.
  • Sponges: It goes without saying, but sponges can get really dirty over time. You can clean them by soaking them in a 50/50 mix of hydrogen peroxide and warm water. Make sure to rinse the sponges after.

Using Hydrogen Peroxide In Your Bathroom

You can also use hydrogen peroxide to clean your toilets. Just pour half a cup of hydrogen peroxide into your toilet bowl and let it sit for about half an hour. After that time you will need to scrub the toilet clean.

Using Hydrogen Peroxide Around The House

Hydrogen peroxide can be used to disinfect many areas around the house. Using the spray bottle method mentioned above, you can clean your child’s toys, floors, and other hard surfaces. Because hydrogen peroxide is not an irritant you do not have to worry about respiratory issues. Make sure to wipe down any surface after use.
